Sportsnet reports that the San Jiose Sharks have re-signed defenseman Rob Blake to a 1 year, $4 million contract. Blake was vital on the Sharks team that led the league in points. Blake not only put up 45 points in 73 games, he provided a vital role in the locker room for San Jose's youngsters.
TSN reports that the Carolina Hurricanes have re-signed forward Jussi Jokinen to a two-year, $3.4 million deal. Jokinen was acquired from the Lightning and was a playoff hero for Carolina in their playoff run, registering 7 goals and 11 points in 11 gaqmes for the Canes.
Randy Sportak of Sun Media reports that progress has not been made between premier free agent Jay Bouwmeester and the Calgary Flames, who acquired his negotiation rights from the Florida Panthers for Jordan Leopold and a 3rd round pick. Sportak also says the Oilers, Canucks, Canadiens, Kings, and Blue Jackets are interested in Jay.
The Sports Network reports that Peter Schaefer, Jay McKee and Brett McLean were all placed on waivers by their respective clubs. The move allows each players club to clear cap space for the much anticipated free agent frenzy which begins July 1st.
